Our G85 is an affordable mirrorless camera built for video, it’s very similar to the industry leading Panasonic GH5 with many of the same features. Mirrorless camera are the waive of the future for video. Here are some of our favorite features

• 5 axis in body stabilization. Handheld shots are pretty phenomenal, especially when paired with an OIS lens. Helps our vintage lenses out allot. A revolutionary feature in our opinion.

• Weather sealed body. This is our only rental camera (besides our GoPro) that you might be able to take out in the rain or snow

• 4K video at 24 and 30 frames per second. Also shoots 4K photos.

• Large dynamic range (11.5 stops at 200 ISO) gives great image quality with a good set cinematic colour profiles if you wish to colour grade your footage. Although it’s not a cinema camera it suitable for many kinds of professional video work. It’s our third best video camera in terms of image quality.

• Interchangeable micro 4/3 lens setup. We carry a large collection of lenses in this size, including vintage lenses.

• Decent auto-focus system. This is a feature that Blackmagic cameras lack.

Cameras are specialists these days, you may want to rent a different camera if you need the following.

• No headphone jack, it does meter the audio however. Pairs well with a Zoom recorder for that reason. Many of our LAV microphone have a headphone monitor port.

• No slow motion in 4K, no 120 frames super slow motion like the GH5 or the BMPCC 4K

In terms of video capability DSLR cameras have come a long ways in the last few years. This camera has the best auto-focus system in our entire lineup. Here are a few of our favorite features of the SL2 for video

•Dual pixel dynamic autofocus with quiet STM lenses. Canon’s new focus system works well and won’t disturb your audio. This camera does a great job tracking faces. Better autofocus for video is one of the biggest improvements in DSLR video cameras we’ve seen.

• The flip around screen is great for video blogging

• Shoots 1080 60 frames video for smooth slow motion. This is the best camera we currently rent if you intend to use slow motion in post-production.

• CAV offers an assortment of high quality lenses for the camera including primes and telephoto.

• Here at CAV we love cinematic looking video. Iin terms of video quality this is our second best, it’s hard to top a Blackmagic production camera. EOS lenses (especially primes) give a very crisp image. The SL2 can shoot a flat colour profile for better looking video in post-production. The video coming from this camera looks great. CAV offers basic colour correction services.

• Can be used as a USB webcam (low frame-rate high quality)

• Accepts a power supply for longer shoots. These are available through CAV.

• Also an excellent choice for shooting stills. Our favorite rental camera for stills is still the Fuji XT10 however.

Some limitations

•Video clips are capped to a 30 minute max. At this point the user has to hit the record button again. You can rent an SD capture card from CAV for longer clips but you will have to shut autofocus off for a clean HDMI output. We rent other cameras that are a better choice for “set it and forget it” with dynamic autofocus.

This is a built in camera and gimbal device. A small lightweight camera solution that gets good 4K quality. You can hold this all day without your arm falling off.

A classic full frame DSLR camera that takes outstanding pictures with lovely bokeh. Although a few years old now this is a professional camera with an original MRSP around 4K. Although it can shoot 1080p video it’s more of a stills camera.

This professional video camera has 3CMOS sensors for great image quality. This camera has a full sized HDMI output perfect for live streaming or live video. Full HD 1080i HD recording to tape. Although it takes a little longer to process taped recordings they are inexpensive compared to P2 cards and offer unlimited shooting (just pop in a new tape every 60 to 90 minutes). We offer post production services with this camera if you’d like your video processed into a modern digital format such as mp4.

• This camera has a single basic 3.5mm TRS external audio input. If additional audio is desired consider adding our Zoom H5 recorder or rent our HVX-200 instaed with two XLR inputs.

This is a higher quality consumer grade rental camera. Although it doesn’t have as many features as our professional cameras the quality of video footage is very comparable. It’s difficult to tell the difference for most. The image quality of this camera is surprisingly good.

• More user friendly and automated than our professional cameras

• Shoots to dual convenient SDXC SD cards or 32 gig of internal memory. Video editing and rendering isn’t as necessarily with this style of camera

The image quality on our GoPro is still pretty decent even in 2021, especially if you use protune and have us colour grade the footage. Pairs with the phone for a nifty wireless video monitoring system (no onboard display). We have a number of neat mounts for it including a chest mount. We’ve used it as a dive camera with positive results. Although it theoretically shoots 4K it’s only 15 frames per sec, which isn’t very useful unless you are going for a security cam look. It does shoot 2.5 K though at 24, which we find useful.

This is a fast and sexy lens for sure! Razor sharp, flexible, constant 2.8 aperture, fast and stabilized - it rivals the industry classic Canon L series equivalent. SP Tamron lenses are top of the line glass and a great choice for a professional photographer or videographer. You won’t be disappointed.

Gives your M 4/3 camera some of the magic of a full frame camera - wide with plenty of bokeh. Pairs well with our BM pocket 4K or Lumix cameras. Autofocus still works 0.71. We also carry a FD to M 4/3 speed booster.

Looking for a more filmic look? Calgary audio visual and rentals is pleased to offer a full set of vintage manual lenses with our micro 4/3 cameras. They pair well with the BMPCC 4K or G85. Very similiar to our H5n with a modular microphone. The H4n has a stereo microphone that is fixed but adjustable (90 to 180 degrees). The layout and a few features are a bit different than the H5n. Great way to add a few more channels of audio during your shoot.

Although we are also fans of Sennheiser, Sony makes a fine LAV mic. Digital synthesis on these units gives them an exceptionally low noise floor, great for recordings.

One of the best wireless microphones on the market today. High quality unit that produces clean, clear and reliable audio. A battery powered wireless receiver and transmitter makes it suitable for videography, interviews and portable PA systems.

Our favorite wireless system next to Sennheiser. Great feature rich 48 channel wireless system with a lower price point. We use our own lav microphones with the Comica wireless systems to produce high fidelity, clean audio. Comica is the only wireless system with dual a battery powered dual channel receiver (perfect if you are interviewing two people).

This mechanical gimbal pairs well with our Blackmagic production camera. We have used it on our own shoots, it takes a bit of practice and arm strength but is an effective camera stabilization tool.

This camera stabilizer pairs well with DSLR style cameras or our Blackmagic pocket cinema camera. Our production camera is too heavy for this one handed stabilizer. Like all mechanical stabilizers it takes a bit of skill to operate/balance, the results can be satisfying however.

It’s a green and it’s a screen! We use these to change backgrounds in post or live with our Blackmagic ATEM mini. This is a lovely solution for live streaming a corporate AGM when a logo background is required. Don’t print an expensive banner, go green!

This is the most powerful light we rent for video. We carry COB lights with remote control in 150 watt and 80 watt versions. This LED light makes a great key light. 5600 K, dimmable. Accepts diffusion such as an umbrella or bowens mount softbox.

Great little battery powered hair light for photography or video. Or you can run down dark hallways and pretend it’s a sweet viking torch.

We like to use this little battery powered light as a camera light. Colour temps can be adjusted from warm to white. Runs on an interchangeable battery. Great for run and gun shooting with some reasonably soft-light.

Handy little LED light designed to mount on top of your camera. It’s surprisingly bright for it’s size. Great little shooting accessory. Takes AAA batteries.

Great computer for editing your video project. This era of Mac pairs well with the Black Magic Production camera as a display monitor or live stream ingcomputer via Thunderbolt. These unit work great and are a leap forward in AV technology! The first generation of wireless video units had issues (latency, signal dropout and poor resolution). Our wireless units are the first that we find reliable. We’ve used it a number of events with flawless performance.

• Range of 100’ under ideal circumstances. Passing the signal through a wall or through a crowd may diminish the range

• Great for dual projections and presentations where a cable isn’t desirable. We do not recommend using this unit with older XGA projectors, they can have difficulty finding a compatible resolution and switch on and off. Works great with any of our modern HD WXGA or WUXGA projectors.

Shotgun condenser microphones aren’t for duck hunting. Instead they feature excellent noise rejection - they are very focused wherever you point them. We carry a few different great sounding Shotgun microphones Rhode, Takstar and Apex.

Why be wireless if your subject is stationary? This is a great sounding microphone that can be connected with or without wires.
